Sorry I've Been Gone but I Baked You Some Cookies

So you want to own some businesses?
Before you do that, think hard about those eating into your blogging time, because they will!

Sorry I've been gone. Everything was unexpected.

First, family dropped in.
Second, staffing issues.
Third, back to back functions I had to attend. (Oooh, the parties!)
Fourth, Eliot, my beloved Yorkie became very ill and is doing okay now, but I was SO stressed out over that.
Fifth, my main computer I enjoy using caught a nasty virus and had taken, by my computer guy, for four days until it was well again.
Sixth, I am learning to cook and apparently that takes more time than to plop something in the microwave and press a few buttons.

But lookie at mah cookies!

Those are Cooking Lite Magazine's heart healthy chocolate cherry oatmeal and they got such high marks, that the test kitchen tasters had a hard time not polishing them off!

Plus, I could understand all the ingredients.
I asked two friends what "chick peas" are and they both laughed at me.
I still do not know what the hell they are. Thanks, guys.

Nonetheless, Entrepreneur Chick thinks she's back and will resume the next few posts by accepting an awesome award from Postman
and also, on the post following, we will resume where we left off last time, which is getting back to building those business ideas of yours!

  1. I don't think I've ever seen a picture of cookies that warmed my heart so much. I'm SOOO proud of you!!! You're learning to cook! Those cookies are bee-you-tee-ful!

Your week sounds like mine. I'm very glad Eliot's getting better, poor little guy.

Garbanzo beans. Chick peas are garbanzo beans. You buy them usually in a can; they'd be in the canned beans section. You can get them dry too, but who wants to deal with that? They're the main ingredient in hummus, one of my alltime favorite foods. People sometimes put them on salads - in fact, you sometimes see them in restaurant salad bars.

And that completes your chick pea tutorial for the day. Be prepared to take a quiz next time.

  2. Polly,

That compliment coming from you, who can do anything she pleases in the kitchen, means very much to me. Thank you!

Ahh, so that's what chick peas are. Mystery solved.

Today I'm making chicken in the crock pot. Kelly told me to just dump barbeque sauce over drumsticks (but my personal assistant got chicken quarters instead- personal assistant= family member now living with us) and I think I'll make mashed potatos and green beans.

I made some beans and cornbread but stupidly put ALL the ham hocks, four of them, in the pot. I had a bowl yesterday for dinner and now my eyes are totally swollen up because of all the sodium. Oops.

I'm going to Google "hummus". I have no clue what you're talking about.

  4. FIRST, hope the family visit went well
SECOND, I hope those staffing issues were resolved.
THIRD, I hope the parties were fun (but not TOO fun, because then I would really be forced into doing something crazy like going overseas prematurely, out of sheer jealousy).
FOURTH, I really, REALLY hope Eliot is doing better. I think my heart skipped a beat when I read that he was ill.
FIFTH, I hope the computer guy tucked your computer into bed with some chicken soup. That would be AWESOME.
SIXTH, congratulations on the cookies! Wow! Chocolate cherry oatmeal? That's a triple-whammy of goodness! They look delectable, well done.
SEVENTH, I didn't have any idea what the hell chickpeas were either (thanks, Polly). I did know they were an integral ingredient in hummus, and that's all I care about. We make that here often, and eat it with Wheat Thins. KILLER.
EIGHTH, am waiting on tenterhooks for your business advice. As in, I'm sitting here with a stupid grin on my face, rubbing my hands and chuckling evilly.
NINTH, I'd wish you "good luck with the chicken in the crock pot" but based on the cookies, I don't think you'll NEED any good luck. I think you'll whip up a fantastic chicken without it.

    Welcome back.

P.S. I was also looking at those new photos over on the sidebar (i.e. Night @ the Oscars) and all I can say is...ooh-la-la! Looking quite gorgeous, dear. If we weren't already engaged I'd propose to you right here and now.

  5. I strongly recommend you to try hummus; it's a delicious oriental paste which goes with everything.

I must say that the people commenting on your blog are both wise and witty, and I like to read their comments no less than I like to read your posts.

  6. Hi, I found your blog through Kim Ayres' Ramblings of the Bearded One blog. I've just spent time reading your posts and have laughed out loud more times than you can waggle a stick at! Hope you're having a great Sunday.

  8. Postie,

It's SO nice to see you. I was completely bummed when I read about you taking a break.

Your comments are always so sweet... awww, thank you about your concern for Eliot. He's 100% today and is back to bossing me around as usual.

Postie, the chicken from the crock pot was so tender, the meat fell right off the bone! Mmm.

And thank you that you like the pics! I didn't have any super recent (except the one of Eliot and I in November on our hike) so I thought I'd post a few, those were taken just last Tuesday.

Yes, you me and Polly are already engaged so it's a good thing you'd ask me to marry you anyway, yes.

I have references, just in case. Tony can vouch I'm a pretty good wife. And now that I can even cook a few things, LOOK OUT.

I'm going to do my award post next tho- hope you don't mind. THEN I'll do the business idea ones.

  9. DUTA,

I am SO going to have hummus. I like that Wheat Thin idea that Postman was talking about.

I feel the same way about your blog. I read the comments from your insightful, thoughtful readers and think the same thing.

Anyway, about the Ukraine. As I was looking at that region, I was also checking out Norway and Sweden and wondering why they have it divided up like that. I would have just halfed it from top to bottom, not side to side. Funny how nations end up with the kind of geographic boundaries they do- so when I read your last post, I was thinking to myself, I was just looking at that on the map!

  12. Chloe,

It was SO good to talk to you today. I missed and love you too!

Eliot had a stomach virus, the best I can tell. You know how Mya did her thing on your comforter?

Eliot did the same thing at 4:00 a.m. :(

So I sat up with him, and bless his heart, he cried a little bit with every single breath. Mad me so sad for him. Thankfully, he had some pain meds from a few months ago so I gave him those, which calmed him down and he could sleep.

He was weak after that, but otherwise fine. I talked to the vet and set something up for him if we needed it.

Thank you about the cookies. I actually made two batches and got myself another cookie sheet so I could sort of have an assembly line going.
